Join us for this year’s 8th annual Convergence Symposium.

The 8th annual Convergence Symposium includes safe and socially-distanced networking and learning sessions at The Ohio State University’s Mars G. Fontana Laboratories. It is a collaborative event from both the Science and Technology and Healthcare practices at Perkins&Will, graciously hosted by The Ohio State University College of Engineering. We will explore the intersections between medicine, cell and gene therapy manufacturing, research, and engineering.  The possibilities are endless when you combine core engineering principles and methodologies to solve problems in biology, medicine, behavior, and health, or to pioneer technology, manufacturing, industrial robotics, and project and change management optimization. Converging disciplines will be presented, discussed, and discovered at Ohio State University's Mars G. Fontana Laboratory, a 124,000 gross square foot reimagined facility for the College of Engineering, designed by Perkins&Will.

The event starts on Tuesday, July 27 at 8:00 am and ends Wednesday, July 28 at 4:30 pm.

Tuesday’s presentations focus on Materials and Manufacturing, including:

  • Dr. Perena Gouma – COVID 19 Breathalizer technologies
  • Dr. Michael Mills – Materials Characterization: Capabilities and Impact
  • Dr. Boyd Panton – Advanced Manufacturing of Smart Devices
  • Dr. Enam Chowdhury – Cancer Therapies via Laser
  • Dr. Jenifer Locke - Corrosion Engineering
  • Dr. Glenn Daehn and Nate Names – Advanced Manufacturing

Attendees will travel to the OSU Airport on Tuesday evening to network, explore the Austin E. Knowlton Executive Terminal and Flight Education Center, while enjoying dinner and learning about the country’s first helicopter based MedFlight program from Dr. Cindy Roberts.

Wednesday’s presentation focus on Engineering and Medicine, including:

  • Dr. Matthew Ringel and Dr. Jonathan Song - Cancer Engineering Research at The Ohio State University
  • Dr. Katelyn Swindle-Reilly – Engineering Treatments for Ocular Diseases
  • Dr. Robert Fyffe – Neuroscience Engineering Collaboration
  • Dr. Daniel Gallego-Perez – Micro/Nano Biomedical Devices
  • Dr. Samir Ghadiali – Engineering New Therapies for Respiratory Disease
  • Dr. Rudy Buchheit – Campus Infrastructure Modernization
  • Panel Discussion - Capital Fund-raising for OSU Fontana Labs

The possibilities are endless when you combine core engineering principles and methodologies to solve problems in biology, medicine, behavior, and health, or to pioneer technology, manufacturing, industrial robotics, and project and change management optimization.
