The Ohio State Biomedical Engineering Conference (OSBMEC) took place on August 31st.  The OSBMEC takes place annually and is hosted by the Department of Biomedical Engineering at The Ohio State University. Sponsors included: OSU Chapter, IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology, and the OSU Student Chapter of the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES).  This year’s guest speaker was Mikhail Viznyuk, undergraduate BME student, who gave a talk on behalf of his lab’s work on Clinical Imaging Analysis at the Department of Biomedical Informatics.

Faculty members participated as volunteer judges during the poster session. Students presented their research posters and were judged according to criteria that included knowledge of the research, significance, methods and quality of the presentation. This year’s first place winner was BME PhD student, Patricia Casal, for her poster titled “Transplant Graft Status Monitoring by ImmunoFET in Physiological Environments,” advised by Andrew Theiss (BME, and Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute), Yuji Wang (Electrical Engineering), Gregg Hadley (Department of Surgery), Wu Lu (Electrical Engineering), and Stephen C. Lee, BME professor.

The second place winner of the poster competition was BME PhD student, Kang Wei, for his poster titled “A 3D Artificial Compound Eye for Directional and Wide Angle Imaging,” advised by Yi Zhao, BME Professor, and Qian Wang (BME).

Both award recipients were presented with a $100 travel grant from the Department of Biomedical Engineering.

Thank you to Ohio State’s Student Chapter of BMES for organizing and hosting this year’s event.
