Honoring excellence: 19th Annual Distinguished Faculty Awards

The College of Engineering annually honors faculty and researchers for outstanding teaching, research and outreach at the Distinguished Faculty Awards. The 2016 awardees were recognized on April 28th, in the Blackwell ballroom. This year three of the Department of Biomedical Engineering faculty members were celebrated for their excellence.

2016 Distinguished Faculty Awards recipients:

David C. McCarthy Engineering Teaching Award 

Mark Ruegsegger, PhD, Associate Professor of Practice and Director of Undergraduate Studies of BME, for providing his students with the valuable opportunity to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams to design and commercialize solutions to real-life biomedical engineering problems.

This award recognizes the contributions of College of Engineering junior faculty and staff to create more innovative and effective teaching and learning. 

Faculty Diversity Excellence Award 

Jessica Winter, PhD, Professor, Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, for her commitment to developing future diverse leaders through mentorship, research and teaching.

This award recognizes an individual or team demonstrating excellence and success in the development and implementation of models, strategies, practices and programs that foster and enhance diversity in the college. 

Lumley Research Award 

Xiaoming He, PhD, Associate Professor of BME for his outstanding research and contributions.

The Lumley Engineering Research Awards are presented to a select group of outstanding researchers in the College of Engineering who have shown exceptional activity and success in pursuing new knowledge of a fundamental or applied nature.
