The Department of Biomedical Engineering honors faculty, staff and students for excellence
On Friday, April 20th, the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) and the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Ohio State University Student Chapter, hosted the annual, end-of-the-year awards luncheon. The event recognized the outstanding faculty, staff and students in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at The Ohio State Engineering over the 2017-18 academic year.
The undergraduate “Senior Leadership” award was renamed this year as the “Richard T. Hart Senior Leadership” award. This award was renamed in 2018 in honor of Dr. Hart’s strong leadership and dedication to the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Ohio State. This was Dr. Hart’s last BME awards luncheon as acting chair for the Department of Biomedical Engineering as he is set to retire in late August of this year. Dr. Hart joined the department in 2006 as the Edgar C. Hendrickson Designated Professor and Chair, serving 3 terms. Under Dr. Hart’s leadership the department initiated and received ABET accreditation for the undergraduate program; expanded the graduate program; the number of BME faculty and staff and UG students has grown in size; and he has played a major role in the planning for a new location for BME on central campus with groundbreaking this month and the anticipation of the move in by Spring 2020. Dr. Hart, whose lead-by-example approach to leadership, has strengthened the department and he will leave behind a great legacy.
