A Word from the Department Chair, Dr. Hart

Dear Biomedical Engineering Alumni and Friends:

Welcome to our e-newsletter!

As you see from this e-news edition, we continue to thrive: including faculty members with joint appointments, we now have 28 BME faculty members and we are seeking to add at least two additional faculty members in the next year.

We have secured state funding for a portion of our relocation to main campus that will include part renovation and part new construction of the old Koffolt-Fontana building/site. The detailed program and architectural planning will begin in January, with demolition and construction slated to begin in late Spring of 2018; we hope to move in by early 2020. This will be our new common home for administrative, teaching, and some research activities (some will still have labs on the medical campus). The new infrastructure will enable our continuing growth in terms of faculty, staff, and students, and we look forward to the new home with increased opportunities for collaborations. We will share part of the building with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and be centrally located in the midst of other engineering departments.

In this brief summary of our news, please note the success with our broader audience in the field (The Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES)), and the honors for our faculty, staff, and students.

We thank you for helping support our continued successes. We continue to note with pride that 100% of our regular faculty and staff have provided gifts to OSU via the annual Campus Campaign. I hope that our enthusiasm for investing in ourselves will spur you to consider gifts targeted to the department to help us achieve our strategic goals, including help with our new building.  (See our “Support BME” button on our newly revamped website at bme.osu.edu. or please let me know if you would like to meet).

In addition to financial support, we continue to rely on the network of Ohio State alumni and friends to help our students find internship and employment opportunities. Please continue to let us know of any opportunities as you find them.

I am always happy to meet our alumni and friends. Please stop by, if convenient, to get a firsthand look at our progress.
