BME Undergraduate Program graduates first students

Posted:

The first cohort of undergraduates in the recently-formed BME major are now seniors.  Three members of that class graduated early, at the end of Winter Quarter, and became the first alumni of our program.  Pictured at their design team presentation are Elaina Graeff (left), Eric Hojnacki (center) and Ray Ratliff (right).  All three were part of BME's inaugural class.
Elaina came to BME from Mechanical Engineering and was excited to study the discipline that truly interested her!  Elaina was an integral part of the new program in BME - including working with new first quarter freshman in Engineering 100.  Her immediate post-graduate plans include planning her wedding, scheduled for this summer.
Eric Hojnacki transferred from Columbus State Community College into BME.  He pushed through all his coursework in record time - including a summer internship with Genentech in Oregon - managing to graduate a year early.  Upon graduation, Eric was offered full time employment at Genentech.
Raymond Ratliff also started at Ohio State as a Mechanical Engineering major.  When BME was approved, despite the length of time it would add to his degree, Ray switched over.  Ray's goal was to work in Biomedical sales for Zimmer; a degree in BME, coupled with his minor in ME would make him uniquely qualified.  Additionally, Ray worked as a summer intern for Dr. Richard Hart, our Department Chair, on a project using the MicroCT Scanner.  Shortly before graduating, Ray was thrilled to be one of two OSU graduates offered a position at Zimmer.
