The Department of Biomedical Engineering welcomed 35 students from Sherwood Middle School in Columbus for the Breakfast of Science Champions program on Wednesday, November 9th. Dr. Mark Ruegsegger, Associate Professor of Practice, Director of BME Undergraduate Education, hosted the event with help from Ben Jones, BME Lab Supervisor, and graduate teaching assistants Kyle Bodnyk, Peter Amaya, and Monica Okon.

The students had the opportunity to experience  five hands-on demonstrations, including ultrasound imaging, electrocardiography, biomechanical tensile testing, metal implants, and 3D-printing.

The Breakfast of Science Champions is an annual event held at Ohio State that offers Columbus City Schools middle school students the opportunity to explore science, math, and engineering at The Ohio State University in a program designed especially for them. Students spend a morning on campus and enjoy breakfast with faculty and graduate students from sciences, mathematics, and engineering to learn about career opportunities and attending college. Students then tour labs and participate in a variety of activities.
