The Department of Biomedical Engineering is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Keith Gooch from Associate to Full Professor, effective June 2, 2016.

Dr. Gooch received his Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Virginia Tech in 1991. In 1995, he completed his Ph.D. in chemical engineering at Penn State. His research focused on the molecular mechanisms regulating flow-induced NO production and the roles this NO has on ethothelial cells, including their DNA synthesis and ability to support CMV virus replication. From 1995 to 1998, Dr. Gooch was a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Rober Langer at MIT. Initually, he worked on mechanical and biochemical regulation of engineered cartilage formation. After receiving a NIH National Research Service Award, he worked on tissue engineering of microvascular networks with a specific interest in the possibility of using these engineered structures in cell-based gene therapy.

In 1998 he bagan his independent research career as an assistant professor of bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania. There, his laboratory research aimed to 1) better understand the factors controlling the growth, differentiation, and remodeling of cells and tissues and 2) to ultimately use this information to improve human health by directing tissue development (i.e. tissue engineering) or modulating tissue states in the body (i.e. preventing or treating disease). This work spans the molecular, cellular, tissue, and whole organism levels and several different cell/tissue types. He joined The Ohio State University in 2006 and has continued his research on growth, differentiation, and remodeling with a focus on the cardiovascular system.

Please join us in wishing Dr. Gooch congratulations for this proud achievement.
